Our story
My Learned Friend is a social enterprise with a vision to improve access to justice in Aotearoa New Zealand.
About 50% of people in New Zealand will experience a legal problem in the next two years.
But 52% of lawyers rate the legal system as poor or very poor at providing everyone access to justice.
We think technology can help can help.

Our vision
Being able to know and exercise your rights is fundamental to our society. That means the law should be easy to access and easy to understand. But we know law can be a costly, stressful and time-consuming business.
Despite the support and services available, there are still significant barriers to accessing justice.
We're exploring how artificial intelligence (AI) can overcome these barriers and help those in need.
Our mission
Improve access to justice
Simplify the law and legal system
Shape the future of legal practice
Boost New Zealand's productivity
Improving access to justice, intelligently.
What we're doing

Technology for good
We believe AI should be used for good: to help us solve complex problems and create a better future.
Uniquely New Zealand
We're a forward-thinking, innovative country. There's no better place on earth to be on this journey.

Future of law
AI won't replace lawyers anytime soon. But we believe lawyers who use AI will replace those who don't.
